In the hometown of radical poet Emily Dickinson, the installation pulled together ideas from protest movements, poetry, the place of art, and social change. 3Fates then created a live-art happening in response to the installation- a design-led process. Performed at The Yard Theatre. Audience members arrive one by one to the old brick house at twilight, ascend the dark wooden staircase and enter a sparse corner bedroom with a white bed, lit candle, and quiet trees at the windows – evoking the feeling of entering the room Emily Dickinson spent most of her solitary life in. Although this is not a typical reconstruction of a historical space: The visitor is encouraged to sit on the bed and discover a tiny gallery – a tea tray of envelopes containing hidden drawings, jumbled thoughts, tiny performance spaces. Shut away behind the wardrobe door are rows of small blank papers: on their flipsides – thoughts, stories, anecdotes depicted as quick pencil sketches. These public murals connect the urban environment with the natural world and highlight the important work being done in this community to live as custodians of this special landscape.In 2019/2020 I was lucky enough to work with Inkdwell Studio in San Francisco California: a public-art studio that creates work which explores the wonders of the natural world. The coastline is home to expansive seagrass meadows; protected marine habitats that support a huge variety of marine species. This mural celebrates a conservation success and transforms a neglected alleyway in Newport, Isle of Wight, Fifteen years ago, disease-resistant Elm trees were planted, enabling the return of the White-Letter Hairstreak butterfly, once near extinction due to Dutch Elm disease. Today, these trees continue to support its revival. The way the stripes move through order into chaos and back to order again represents the mind, what they might be experiencing, and something to be able to think through in quiet moments in this space. &nbsp; The stripe motif came through sessions with students experimenting with cutting paint rollers to create various line effects. &nbsp; Biosphere mural with Artswork and the Island Learning Centre, Newport IOW - 2023Year 8 and 9 students at the centre were involved in the concept and creation of these mural artworks to create a multi-use space for them within the school. Campaigners are working towards new homes to be built with Swift bricks, to support declining populatons. The swifts are shown flying, as they are almost always on the wing, migrating huge discances to our shores from as far as central Africa. The dots, made with the fingerprints of volunteers represent the flying insects they consume on the wing. Other theatre work has included: lecurer in theatre design at Rose Bruford College (London) and artist in residence at Amherst College, Massachussets, USA.
